Since the 15th of June,  Microsoft Office 2010 has been available for private users. A  few weeks ago Microsoft announced the launch of its Office 2010 Technology Guarantee: Customers that buy an upgrade-qualifying Office 2007 product between March 5th and September 30th 2010, can upgrade to Office 2010 for free. If you have questions about the Technology Guarantee of Office 2010, you can find a lot about it in the FAQ’s of Microsoft.

32-bit installation recommended

On the question of a 64-bit version of  the Office 2010 upgrade, Microsoft does not recommend the installation. The 64-bit Office 2010 upgrade is indeed available, but the manufacturer recommends that you install the 32-bit version on both systems, because a lot of popular add-ins do not work in the Office 64-bit version at the moment. Furthermore there may be technical problems. Only users who work frequently with very large data sets and need Excel 2010 for retrieving over 2 GB of data, should fall back to 64-bit.
