Apple have release the key features of the new iOS 5 (some are brand new, some are just improved releases of the former versions found in iOS 4). Here are some of the highlights:

  • Notifications – The notification feature in iOS 5 is a major improvement. The best thing Apple did was create a centralized notification center within the iOS 5Settings. You can toggle notifications on and off, select how many alert messages you want to display and even choose to have the notifications appear on your lock screen.

Microsoft provided the first official look at the next release of Windows Phone, code named “Mango.” The new release includes hundreds of new features that will deliver smarter and easier communications, apps and Internet experiences.

Extending the App Experience – a smarter approach to apps

For example, the App Connect feature connects apps to search results and deepens their integration with Windows Phone Hubs – surfacing apps when and where they make sense.  “It’s like having a great butler or a valet that you’ve known for 30 years who can anticipate your every need instead you doing all the work yourself,” said Greg Sullivan, senior product manager of mobile communications at Microsoft.
