Panasonic announced upgrades to the Panasonic Toughbook C1, currently the world’s lightest 12.1” convertible tablet PC. The new version comes equipped with a 320GB base hard drive, up to 12 hours of battery life, 2GB RAM (expandable to 8GB) and an increased Intel® Core™ i5-2520M vPro™ processor (2.50GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz). In addition, the Toughbook C1’s start-up time is approximately 30 percent faster compared to the previous model. The Toughbook C1 convertible tablet form factor is ideal for road warriors and mobile workers in a variety of environments including healthcare, education and field sales.

The upgraded Toughbook C1 maintains its embedded wireless connectivity, including Bluetooth® v2.1 and optional Qualcomm’s Gobi™2000 3G mobile broadband technology. The device is certified on the AT&T, Sprint and other major 3G networks, allowing workers to stay connected virtually all of the time. Additionally, the Toughbook C1 has Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, offering improved connectivity options for mobile workers.

At 3.28 lbs, the lightweight Toughbook C1 with the triple-hinge design is created for a highly mobile workforce. The laptop is able to withstand drops from approximately 30” and comes with a battery life of twelve hours (with optional second battery) - enabled by a hot-swappable twin battery design.  

Pricing and Availability

In the United States, the upgraded Toughbook C1 is expected to be available in July 2011 from authorized Panasonic reseller starting at an estimated street price of $2,599. The Toughbook C1 includes a full three-year limited warranty, parts and labor, providing coverage wherever the unit may be deployed.

The new version of Google Chrome has a few strong points which are really worth mentioning. It would warn users before downloading malicious files, as a result of Google developers having upgraded security features in the latest stable release.  So, in order to protect users of certain malicious websites and phishing, Google Chrome now warns us before downloading certain types of malicious files.

According to a memeber of the development team, this security feature has been carefully designed, so that malware can be detected without Google Chrome storing the visited URLs or the downloaded files.

Also, Chrome now gives users more control over data downloaded from Web sites and stored on the computer . This includes Flash Player’s Local Shared Objects (LSOs) as a result of a collaboration with the Adobe development team.

Besides improvements in security and privacy, the most recent version of  Google Chrome includes support for hardware-accelerated 3D CSS, which means users will get a better experience on web pages and applications that use 3D effects.

Apple iOS5 jailbroken

Apple iOS5 Jailbroken in less than 24 hours from launch. iPhone Dev Team MuscleNerd posted a couple of images on his Twitter account confirming the Jailbreak of iOS5 which works fine but it’s limited, this meaning that you need to connect your device to the computer on every reboot.

Apple have release the key features of the new iOS 5 (some are brand new, some are just improved releases of the former versions found in iOS 4). Here are some of the highlights:

• Notifications – The notification feature in iOS 5 is a major improvement. The best thing Apple did was create a centralized notification center within the iOS 5Settings. You can toggle notifications on and off, select how many alert messages you want to display and even choose to have the notifications appear on your lock screen.

• Twitter -  You can add your Twitter credentials into the Settings and tweet directly from Apple’s native applications like Safari or photos. The tweet option is found under the sharing panel that you use to send an item via email or messaging.

• Camera and Photo – The app included a grid to help you line up your shot and pinch-to-zoom so you can focus on an area very easily. One huge improvement is the use of the volume up button to take a picture.

• Reminders - The Reminders app does exactly what it says – it lets you add reminders for important tasks or events.

• Safari Mobile Reader and Tabs – Safari Mobile was updated to include full tabbed browsing,

• New Mail app includes Rich Text Formatting, indentation control, draggable email addresses, message flagging and many more

• New Game Center enhamcements: achievement points, access friends of friends, photos in your profile, game discovery, game downloads within Game Center, support for turn-based games like Words for Friends and Scrabble.

iOS 5, the latest version of the world’s most advanced operating system, includes over 200 new user features, and an updated SDK with over 1,500 new APIs and powerful new development tools. Developers may start implementing an incredible array of new features, including iCloud Storage, Notification Center, Newsstand, iMessage, Twitter integration, Game Center, and more.

What’s really exciting: on June the 6th, Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS® X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple’s advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad®, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple’s upcoming cloud services offering.

iCloud is expected to offer features such as syncing of bookmarks, contacts and calendar events, free to users who run Mac OS X Lion, Apple’s latest Mac operating system. The iCloud service is believed to replace the current MobileMe product for a yearly subscription of some $ 25.
